Allsport Labradors is the dream that has become a reality for Greg and Becky Alton. We purchased our first male yellow lab from Mike and Maggie Guinn of Ghilles Kennels in Calgary, Alberta in 1977. Over the years we have involved ourselves in breeding, conformation showing and taking our dogs to the Junior level at retriever trials.
Allsport Kennels started with our purchase of a 10 acre property in Puslinch Township just south of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. We now had the land to build proper kennel facilities, including exercise areas, to breed dogs the right way!
Our first priority in breeding is for temperament. Our labs must be family members, good with children and with other dogs and be sociable creatures that you are proud to own.
Secondly, we breed for soundness. All Allsport females, and the stud dogs that we use in our breeding program, have their hips evaluated using the PennHip method. Elbows are cleared and certified by the Ontario Veterinary College and eyes are checked annually.
Finally, we breed as close to the Labrador standard as possible, using British lineage. We strive for compact muscular labs that can swim, run and play. Allsport labs and any stud we use must have and demonstrate the fundamental instincts of a true Labrador. These being the ability of the dog to retrieve, use it's nose, love the water and work for it's owner because he or she loves to please.
